New Danish Licence to Allow Bingo via Walkie-Talkie and Local Radio by 2026

Denmark is preparing to modernise its gambling landscape with a fresh licence category designed specifically for bingo played over walkie-talkies and local radio stations. If approved, the framework will open the doors for operators to bring a nostalgic yet innovative form of entertainment back into the spotlight.
A New Licence Category on the Horizon
A proposed bill currently under review in the Danish Parliament could soon redefine how bingo is delivered across the country. The plan introduces a dedicated licence covering bingo run via walkie-talkies and community radio channels. The Danish Gambling Authority anticipates the new rules to take effect on 1 January 2026, marking the start of an entirely new operational model for organisations wishing to offer this format.
Should the legislation be passed, operators will be able to submit licence applications from the same date. The Gambling Authority has confirmed it will update its guidance as soon as the bill is formally adopted.
How Operators Can Apply
Businesses intending to run bingo through walkie-talkies or radio broadcasts will need to secure approval from the Danish Gambling Authority. Applications are expected to open on 1 January 2026, using the official form titled “Apply for a walkie-talkie or radio bingo licence” (no. 1-02). This form will be available under the revenue-restricted licences section of the Authority’s website.
A digital version of the application will also be published, although it is not expected to appear on virk.dk until January. Each applicant will be assigned a dedicated contact person to offer guidance throughout the process—and typically for the duration of the licence period. The Authority aims to process submissions swiftly to help operators enter the market without delay.
Reporting Requirements for Licence Holders
Once the licence is granted and put to use, operators must comply with the Danish Gambling Act and the Executive Order on Online Casino. One key obligation is the completion of a first-year operational report. This report, intended to document compliance with licence conditions and legislation, must be submitted no later than 14 months after the licence becomes active.
Operators may complete the report themselves, using form no. 1-04, which will be made available on the Authority’s website. The document serves as a vital accountability measure, ensuring transparency and responsible operation within this new bingo format.
How Walkie-Talkie Bingo Could Transform the Market
The potential introduction of a licence for walkie-talkie and radio bingo marks a notable evolution in Denmark’s regulated gambling sector. With structured application procedures, clear compliance rules, and dedicated support from the Gambling Authority, operators can look forward to engaging new audiences through a uniquely retro yet modernised bingo experience.
