When McPeek attempted to collect his winnings, the casino voided his bets, citing house rules designed to prevent money laundering and betting structuring. Allegedly, McPeek’s tactic of placing numerous small wagers, sometimes in disguise, triggered the casino’s red flags.

Scott Morrow, a former Las Vegas casino executive now lecturing in gaming, criticised McPeek’s approach, accusing him of deliberately crossing state lines to exploit regulatory gaps. In contrast, professional gambler and author Eli Feustel sided with McPeek, arguing that Caesars acted improperly by cancelling bets only after the outcomes were known — a move he believes undermines the principle of fair play.

Adding further intrigue, the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana, also banned McPeek after a substantial win, but not before honouring a $127,000 payout.

McPeek has filed complaints with regulators in Indiana and Iowa, although with mixed results. The Indiana Gaming Commission backed Caesars’ actions, while Iowa’s investigation remains ongoing.
