The first-ever MEGA (Mexico Gaming) event will take place in Mexico City from 3-5 February 2026, aiming to connect the global industry with Latin America's expanding gaming market. It arrives as efforts intensify to modernise the country’s regulatory framework.
Driving Change in Mexico's iGaming Regulation
After nearly eight decades, Mexico is progressing toward modernising its gaming legislation. Lawmakers, supported by the Association of Permit Holders, Operators and Suppliers (AIEJA), are working to replace the 1947 Federal Gaming and Lottery Law with a contemporary framework. The core aims of the reform are to establish greater transparency, promote responsible gaming practices, and enhance player protection measures.
The proposed changes are expected to include the establishment of a new entity, the National Institute of Games and Raffles. If approved, this move would officially usher in a regulated, innovation-driven era for the sector, opening significant opportunities for operators, suppliers, affiliates, and investors. The push for reform comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Market Scale and Conference Focus
Mexico is widely seen as possessing the necessary scale, demand, infrastructure, and local expertise to potentially become the leading gaming hub in Latin America. The country currently supports a dual ecosystem that includes a thriving online market, with significant growth expected for iGaming, and a stable land-based sector with more than 350 existing casinos. Regulatory modernisation is anticipated to accelerate this growth.
The MEGA 2026 event, a three-day, exhibition-led platform, is designed to immerse attendees in this evolving landscape. Content sessions will provide in-depth insights into key topics, ranging from regulatory compliance and investment to technology and operational strategy.
Event Chairperson Margarita Cruz, Founder/Director of Diamond28 Consulting Limited, noted the regional shift:
“Mexico and LatAm are transitioning from high-velocity growth to a more structured regulatory era, reshaping how operators plan and compete.”
Networking and Strategic Connections
Scheduled for Mexico City, the event is set to act as a gateway for the wider Latin American region. The agenda places a strong emphasis on elite networking, offering exclusive opportunities to connect directly with C-level executives, regulators, and investors driving regional developments.
The confirmed line-up includes a distinguished list of industry leaders from various sectors, such as Alfredo Lazcano, Chair of Lazcano Sámano; Alejandro Leos, Marketing Director at TEAMMEXICO.mx; and Enrique Romero, Director of GoldenBet.
The event is positioned as a launchpad for brands looking to showcase solutions, announce new partnerships, and embed their businesses in the region’s fast-evolving gaming community.
