Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) will shut down its dual-currency sweepstakes model in West Virginia, confirming that players will no longer be able to use Sweeps Coins on its sites from November 11th. The company cited a "range of factors" for the decision to end promotional play in the state.

Withdrawal from Promotional Play

VGW has confirmed its exit from offering Sweeps Coin games, meaning the company has cut another state out of its sweepstakes model. A spokesperson verified that while Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker will remain operational in the state, games will exclusively use Gold Coins. This transition means the sites will function only as free-to-play platforms, without the promotional currency that can be redeemed for prizes.

The operator positioned its decision to phase out VGW sweeps play West Virginia as the result of "careful consideration," although the company acknowledged the move may disappoint some loyal players. The spokesperson affirmed that VGW is focused on ensuring "players are fully informed about the changes and that this transition is as smooth as possible."

Transition Timeline for Players

The restriction on promotional play in West Virginia is effective from November 11th. From this date, players can no longer collect Sweeps Coins through any method, including login bonuses, competition prizes, or promotional bonuses with the purchase of Gold Coins.

Customers with existing balances can continue to play using any remaining Sweeps Coins until November 18th. The final deadline for players to redeem any Sweeps Coins won for cash prizes is November 25th.

Part of a Wider US Scaling Back

The West Virginia withdrawal is part of a broader trend of VGW ending sweeps play in US jurisdictions, making the state the latest in more than ten other recent exits. Many of these changes occurred in 2025 as the sweepstakes model faced increasing regulatory scrutiny.

The states where VGW has ceased offering Sweeps Coins include several that passed legislative bans this year, such as New York, Connecticut, Montana, and New Jersey.

The list also includes jurisdictions that have pursued enforcement action, like Washington, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Once the West Virginia exit is complete, the company will no longer offer sweeps games in five states that also feature legal iGaming, including Michigan and Delaware.
